On 14 December representatives from East Cambridgeshire District Council and volunteers from the Friends of Jubilee Gardens came together for a tree planting day to spruce up the Queen’s Wood area of the gardens.

The work undertaken by the council and the Friends of Jubilee Gardens sees 13 species of trees planted in the area which is underplanted with bulbs and a variety of woodland plants.

Chair of the Commercial Services Committee, Councillor Richard Hobbs, said: “Jubilee Gardens is such a special area for the district as well as the city of Ely. We are very proud to have been awarded the prestigious Green Flag Award for Jubilee Gardens for twelve consecutive years, which is a huge testament to the commitment and the collaboration between the council’s parks and open spaces team and the Friends of Jubilee Gardens.“

Situated close to the centre of Ely, Jubilee Gardens forms part of a green corridor between the Great Ouse River and Broad Street. The gardens were opened in 2002 by HRH Prince Philip and offer a number of features including a toddlers' play area, a water feature and a bandstand.
