Councillor Richard Hobbs, Chair of the Commercial Services Committee at East Cambridgeshire District Council said:

“Following a major fire in December 2016, the trustees of Mepal Outdoor Centre have reluctantly decided that they are unable to take the operation forward and are therefore terminating their lease. We recognise the amount of volunteer hours put into the centre over the last four years and I’m saddened that it has come to this conclusion. East Cambridgeshire District Council recognise that it is a much-loved community asset and will be taking back the site and exploring possible options for the future of the facility.”
