Pension Credit and Winter Fuel Payments

Apply for Pension Credit before 21 December

Previously the Winter Fuel Payment has been paid to all pensioners.

This year, the government has made the decision to means test the payment - so unless pensioners on low incomes are registered for Pension Credit before the 21 December cut-off date, they will not receive this year's payment.

We know that thousands across East Cambridgeshire sit just above the cut-off for Pension Credit and will now lose their Winter Fuel Payment.

By applying now we want to help our most vulnerable residents to be able to afford heating during the coldest months, thereby preventing 'heat or eat' dilemmas and safeguarding health.

What Pension Credit is

Pension Credit is a benefit that provides extra money for people over State Pension age who are struggling to make ends meet.

Pension Credit adds up:

  • your weekly income to £218.15 if you're single
  • your joint weekly income to £332.95 if you have a partner

You may get extra amounts if you have other responsibilities and costs.

For more information and to make an application visit the Pension Credit pages on GOV.UK.
