Let’s get digital – Council forges ahead with planning committee using video conferencing

Reference:

East Cambridgeshire District Council is preparing to hold their first ever planning committee meeting via online video conferencing platform, Zoom.

The planning committee meeting, which will take place on Monday 20 April at 1pm, is one of the first virtual committees to take place in the East of England.

Restrictions put in place by central government to limit the spread of coronavirus resulted in East Cambs making the decision to cancel all public and Council meetings in person until the start of June 2020.

Regulations introduced on 4th April 2020 allows Councils to now hold ‘remote’ meetings whereas before all Councillors had to be physically present for a meeting to take place.

Members of the public wishing to view the meeting will be able to access a live stream from East Cambridgeshire District Council’s YouTube page.

Councillor Bill Hunt, Chairman of the Planning Committee at East Cambridgeshire District Council, said: “Given the current circumstances, this is an excellent way to move forward to ensure continuity for planning applicants and members of the planning committee welcome this new use of technology.

“The Council’s Communications Team will as usual tweet from the meeting through the Council twitter account @EastCambs.”
