East Cambridgeshire District Council will undertake feasibility studies into five new bus, cycling and walking routes across the district.

The feasibility studies were given the green light after unanimous approval was granted by the Council’s Finance and Assets Committee on Thursday 22^nd July.

The Council will work with well-established charity, Sustrans, to complete the studies.

The report that went to committee outlines the routes identified by the East Cambridgeshire Bus, Cycle, Walk Working Party. They are:

-       Fordham – Burwell

-       Haddenham – A142

-       Little Downham – Ely

-       Littleport – Chettisham – Ely

-       Swaffham Prior – Reach – Burwell

In addition to the five feasibility studies, Sustrans will also provide an update into the construction costs for the remaining works to complete the Wicken to Soham cycle path.

Councillor David Brown, Chairman of the Finance and Assets Committee, said: “I am absolutely thrilled that we can progress with the feasibility studies for these five routes and review the costs to complete the Wicken to Soham cycle path.

“Since its formation, the East Cambridgeshire Bus, Cycle, Walk Working Party has worked successfully to support improvements to bus, cycling and walking provision across the district and this is a great next step towards that goal.

“As a Council, we know how important these routes are for our residents and we look forward to hearing the results of the feasibility studies and progressing this work.”

The estimated cost for the work is £103,165 and this will be provided via the Cambridgeshire Horizons funding.

Once completed, the results of the feasibility studies will be reported back to the Finance and Assets Committee.

This action forms part of the Council’s community-focussed Corporate Plan for 2021-2023 which was approved at a meeting of Full Council on July 15th.
